The Higher Education Directory ^® is the only "official" successor to the U.S. Department of Education's Education Directory, Colleges and Universities that ceased publication in 1984.

It is the only source for listing institutions that offer degrees whose accreditations are recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) approved programs by former COPA and CORPA members.
